Timely top tips, friendly discussion, resources and more!

A brand new super friendly Facebook group!

Shameless promotion? Not at all!

What can I say about Reading Buzz?

It's basically a place where parents/carers, teachers, tutors and writers can hang out for a bit!

The aims are threefold:

  1. To encourage parents and carers to help their kids read.

  2. For tutors, teachers and parents and carers to discuss and share their experience of helping kids to read.

  3. To promote great resources, including being a 'shop window' for great books for children ... especially new authors.

So let me break this down a bit:

To encourage parents and carers to help their kids read.

Most parents and carers love to hear their children read but many get a bit frustrated when they're not quite sure how to help them when they struggle.

Examples

Mispronunciations

Skipping words

Replacing words

Skipping lines

Stuck in staccato ... lack of fluency and has been like this for ages

Can read the words but lacks understanding

Whatever the issues with your children's reading may be, these barriers can be overcome and Reading Buzz will try to help as much as possible!

Share your questions and concerns and we'll do our best to help.

For tutors, teachers, parents and carers to share their experience of helping kids to read.

We don't all have an answer to every question BUT we can draw on a 'pool' of resources. So, teachers, tutors, parents ... come and share what has helped in your classroom, your home, your tuition space.

Wouldn't it be great to have several suggestions on how to solve a particular reading problem that a particular child has? You may not even agree with or like the suggestion but let's not be negative but supportive. This is the ethos of Reading Buzz.

To promote great resources, including being a 'shop window' for great books for children ... especially new authors.

There is a wealth of great resources out there that will support children and their reading in numerous ways. Despite Google, they are not always easy to find!

Each week we will freely promote an author, a website, a book and individual tutors dedicated to supporting children and their reading.

Our very first 'Giveaway'

If you join Reading Buzz you will be eligible for the 'Giveaway' of a signed copy of my children's adventure book Moondust. This is a great gift for a child or grandchild. Aimed at 7 - 12 year olds, Moondust is set in 1969 just before the very first moon landing. It tells the story of 10 year old Ed Frost and his friend Bertie, who discovered two abandoned Welsh Terrier pups. Moondust becomes a much loved family member, while Meteor's life hangs in the balance. The boys trace their origin to a cramped and cruel puppy farm. Can they rescue the pups at the farm and bring the operator to justice?
